Whiskey Toast To 2015

As the year comes to an end, the guys of Whiskey On The Rails reflect back on some of the best and worst whiskey’s we tried during this year.   We celebrated some of the great moments and also got to talk about our sponsors.   In general, another great podcast where we got to talk about whiskey and enjoy some time among friends.    Enjoy the final podcast of 2015 from Whiskey On The Rails.  Train..  Train….

Well in this blog, we are going to talk about one of the best items from 2015, starting this podcast.  When Eric and Rob came together for this podcast, we put together a great mission statement.   We were going to talk whiskey, talk about the best ways to enjoy whiskey and do our best to help people find the best ways to enjoy whiskey.   That is a very strong mission statement in general but one we are proud to say we completed.

We met up with Hotel Tango (out of beautiful Indianapolis, IN) and right away, we loved their story.   We loved the passion that each of the gentleman had and more importantly we loved the spirits we got to taste.   They teased us with the whiskey before it was released and that little tease was enough for both of the hosts.  We were hooked..

Next we started talking with the Glencairn Whisky Glass Company out of Cincinnati, OH.   We found them because we wanted to find the best way to enjoy our whiskey and every search had us back at Glencairn.   Beautiful glasses that pull out a great smell and taste of your whiskeys but more importantly, they are awesome to enjoy your whiskey.   When we started our conversation with them, it took about 5 minutes to finalized and proof a design and within 24 hours, we were drinking out of those glasses.   Awesome product and even better customer service.

Finally, we had a huge dilemma when it came to enjoying our whiskey.  One of the hosts really enjoyed a cold whiskey but didn’t always want to get it watered down..   What are we going to do?   Wait for it to chill in the freezer?   Who has time for that?   Well after doing some searching we came across Whisky Stones out of Vermont.   One stop shop to ensuring your whiskey is ice cold without the water down taste.   These folks have been great to both of the hosts and our followers.   They have provided promotions to where our friends can get discounts on their products, which if you haven’t checked them out you should immediately.     Again, great customer service and they certainly know how to make a couple of guys feel special.

What we do want to say to everybody is Thank You.   Thank you for reading our blogs and listening to our podcasts in 2015.   We are proud of our product and we enjoy bringing people together for great solutions.    Cheers to 2016..  Cheers to great whiskeys..  Cheers To You!!!!

Same story as the past blogs, however for this blog, we are going to do something slightly different, we are going to give our best wishes to all of you and your friends and family.   This is a great time of year to celebrate and be thankful for those in your life and toast a remembrance to those who have passed.   Both of the hosts in this podcast enjoy each of our sessions together because it isn’t like a job by any means.   It is more or less two buddy’s sitting down talking whiskey with a bit of nonsense thrown in from time to time.

We do have our 2015 Whiskey Year In Review next week and in that blog we will thank all of our friends, family and followers who have taken the time to read our blogs, listened to our podcasts and interacted with our hosts.  With that being said, we want to wish everybody Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas.

As always, we gotta thank our sponsors because without them we would be two guys with nothing to drink, nothing to drink out of and more importantly nothing to keep our drinks cold.   If you want to learn more about them, please click on the individual links below or feel free to click on the sponsor’s link at the top right corner of our webpage.  You can find each of their website, facebook and twitter links.

Episode 25 – Evan Williams Single Barrel For Eric

Well we are proud to release our “Silver 25th Podcast” and it is a great time for the guys to bring in a whiskey that one of the hosts considers his “old faithful” big brother whiskey.    We had Evan Williams in our second podcast and felt it was a great time to bring in a bolder version of Evan Williams with its Single Barrel Bourbon.   Will it live up to his expectations?    Will it get him through the night?   Should you immediately go out and buy this whiskey?   Well check out the podcast and find out..  Train..  Train..

Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Launching This Month

(Lebanon, Ky.) December 14, 2015 – Limestone Branch Distillery introduces Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon, set to hit the market this month. Bottled at 93 proof and available in a 750ml bottle with a commemorative tube, Yellowstone Select is crafted using hand-selected barrels of 4-year and 7-year Kentucky Straight Bourbon.

“Yellowstone Select uses some of the finest hand-selected barrels available to create a well-rounded bourbon –  a spicy rye taste at first rounding out with caramel notes and a rich, brown sugar finish that highlights Kentucky tradition,” says Steve Beam, president and distiller of Limestone Branch Distillery. “In 2010, my family and I founded Limestone Branch Distillery with the intention of crafting only the finest whiskey and the dream of restoring the Yellowstone brand to its former glory. In the spring of 2015, that dream came true, and to celebrate this family reunion of sorts, we bring you Yellowstone Select Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.”

Yellowstone Select’s suggested retail price is $49.99 and will be available nationally. It is the second offering from Limestone Branch Distillery, following the success of Yellowstone Limited Edition, which launched in fall 2015.

Steve Beam and his brother Paul Beam founded Limestone Branch Distillery in 2010. The distillery is known for its Moon Pie Moonshine, T.J. Pottinger Sugar Shine and Precinct No. 6 whiskey. With a history of distilling on both sides of their family, the brothers are seventh-generation distillers, and are currently working on the original Yellowstone recipe.

“Bringing the Yellowstone brand back to our family continues to be a point of pride, and we will continue to create unique bourbons that celebrate the brand’s rich history,” says Steve Beam.

In addition, in fall of 2016, Limestone Branch is planning on launching the Yellowstone Barrel Selection Program, where consumers can create a one-of-a-kind bourbon experience. The program will allow participants to choose their own mash bill, barrel size, barrel char level and aging level, as well as allowing them to choose their level of involvement in the process. Participants will be able to select their personalized bourbon and visit the distillery to fill the barrel and bottle the product.

Evan Williams Single Barrel For Eric

Well we are proud to release our “Silver 25th Podcast” and it is a great time for the guys to bring in a whiskey that one of the hosts considers his “old faithful” big brother whiskey.    We had Evan Williams in our second podcast and felt it was a great time to bring in a bolder version of Evan Williams with its Single Barrel Bourbon.   Will it live up to his expectations?    Will it get him through the night?   Should you immediately go out and buy this whiskey?   Well check out the podcast and find out..

Same story as the past blogs, we are pulling out a story our two from the podcast for this blog review.   As we stated prior, Eric is a huge fan of Evan Williams.   From the price point and basic way to enjoy the whiskey, in his terms it can’t be beat.    He was so excited to see this bottle on the shelve when we was doing his research for our podcast.   Once he saw it, he knew we had to have it and drink it during this podcast.   As a side disclaimer, we are still looking for a bottle of Military Special Whiskey so we can complete Eric’s whiskey dream of his younger drinking days.

Well during this podcast, one of the hosts made the comment to mix or not to mix this Evan Williams.   In our second podcast, Cherry Coke and Evan Williams (black label) was the perfect way to enjoy this whiskey.    Now when you got a single barrel spirit, it is almost stupid to think that the perfect way to enjoy this or any single barrel whiskey/bourbon is masking it with another mixer.    Well one of our hosts made the mistake of suggesting this is what we should and you would have thought that he dumped the whiskey down the drain in front of the other host.  Trials and tribulations of drinking and honoring and loving the whiskey over the years might have created a straight case of blinders for one of the hosts.

Yes, you can probably see who we are talking about from the title of the blog but never-the-less people love what people love.     So how do you think this episode turned out?   Well find out during the podcast and learn a lot more about Evan Williams Single Barrel Bourbon.

Alright, so again we are going to keep the samples and reviews in the podcast, however in this blog I wanted to tell the story of why I purchased this bottle.   While venturing around in my local grocery story, I usually check out the whiskey’s so I can figure out the next great whiskey to join the rails.   Well this whiskey caught my attention from the price and the basic information on the bottle..  Straight from Ireland and 100 proof, so I just picked it up to check it out but what caught my attention was the back label.    It isn’t your normal label because on the back they have what is considered The Knot Whiskey Oath.   A agreement you need to make when you are purchasing the whiskey and that agreement goes a little something like this…

“By cracking this seal of The Knot, you accept the drinking is never to be taken lightly and promise to act in a responsible fashion – not like some blithering idiot.    You promise to drink The Knot straight up in a proper shot glass, rather than mixing it in some sort of novelty, tiny umbrella, fruit fiasco.  And finally you vow that you will never drink to anything that you are not preprared to go through with.  If, in any way, you are not willing to abide by these conditions, by all means, please refrain from opening this bottle.”

Alright, so now after reading that label, wouldn’t you buy this bottle?   I mean that is putting your junk out there and say, go ahead..  Try this whiskey..   Do It..    Well we did..     What did we think of the whiskey?    How did it taste?   What did it cost?   Well find out during the podcast.

Episode 23 – Elijah Craig With The River On Fire

Well we are back enjoying some aged small batch bourbon on Whiskey On The Rails.   We enjoy suggestions from our followers and this was a suggestion we received more than once, so we had to bring it into the mix.    In our podcast, we were enjoying the 12 year old, small batch bourbon from Elijah Craig.   We certainly found a winner with this bourbon from three different aspects of enjoyment.   What are they?   Find out in our podcast..   Train..  Train..
