Jack Daniels Single Barrel Rye To Take The Lead

Thanks to a visit during Bourbon Fest in Indianapolis, one of the hosts had the opportunity to not only test but purchase a bottle of whiskey from Jack Daniels.    Alright, so that isn’t that big of a deal but for $15, we certainly stumbled upon some high price whiskey to sample the entire day and then buy it at a reduced cost.   Does that sound like a bigger deal?   Well if it does, then you should go and try a bottle of Jack Daniels Single Barrel Rye, at full price or free if you have a friend who purchased a bottle.   That is what we did this week since Eric purchased the bottle.   Where does it rank in 2017?   Maybe the name gives a hint..  Maybe not..  Find out during this podcast..   Train..  Train..

After a month of travel, illness and general medicated hangover and took us a few weeks to get back on schedule.    If you can’t self-medicate with whiskey, then that certainly won’t be a high point of the week.   So we kicked off what was left over from our general illnesses, jumped into the studio and got back on track with our recording schedule.

As we said in the introduction, this was a bottle that we initially sampled during our trip to Bourbon Fest in Indianapolis in mid-December.   $15, all you can drink.. No Proof is too high..  No sample is too small..   That was the motto of the day and sure enough, we found plenty of whiskeys that we are going to be reviewing this year.   This bottle was one that Eric purchased for his own stache because lets face it, he loves a great Rye.     Let me tell you, this Rye did not disappoint and for coming out of the box at 94 proof, it certainly didn’t stop the woooooooooo’s from being yelled at both Bourbon Fest and also behind the mic..

Sure during the podcast, we did try this Rye three ways but lets face it..   One way was the winner..  What was it?   Can’t give you all of the details..  Listen to the podcast and find out…

Now, we have said it before and we will keep saying it again.   We are so very greatly with the awesome line up of companies we are working with during this podcast.    We like to think of each of our sponsors / partners as part of our extended Whiskey On The Rails family.   When you get to pair up such great products, it is really fun to come out and record every week because we stand behind everything we talk about and enjoy each of the products we get to use during the show.      Even Eric and Rob get along during the podcast because of these great products and that right there is a miracle..

Start Spreading The News With Sinatra And An Diesel Unlimited

Always a great time to spread some cheer when your co-host has a birthday..  Well that birthday was a great time to give him an awesome bottle of Jack Daniels Sinatra Select, which of-course the other host was hoping that bottled would be shared.   If you wait long enough, dreams do come true and Sinatra has made its way onto the Rails..   We paired it up with an awesome Diesel Unlimited for our “First-Third” review from Cigars International..   So what happened?   Did we start spreading the news?   Anybody else from the rat-pack show up?   Well stay tuned for our podcast for all of these answers..  Train..  Train…

While we were recording, we started having a little bit of fun with our dueling video lines.   We do have our Hotel Tango periscope line up and running with our podcasts.   We don’t keep those videos out there but they are great ways to sync up with us during our live recordings for feedback and fun.   At the same time, we will fire up the Hotel Tango facebook live line during the recent recordings for our 1 or 2 minute of fun with our facebook followers..   What most people will hear during our podcasts is some of the interaction that we have had with those people on the lines but what rarely makes the recording (because we are usually paused or stopped) is a lot of the entertaining conversation we have back and forth.

We have learned the following..   We have about 20-30 static followers that immediately jump on the periscope line as soon as it fires up.    Granted that number jumps up and down when others get on the line but we have a dedicated group that always jumps online.   Of those dedicated followers, we have learned that most enjoy heckling Rob over Eric.    I guess Rob says some of the most obscure comments (even off line) to the point that Eric even has to say what???   However don’t think that Eric is left alone, all it takes is one of those moments where he can’t talk (which those usually hit the editing room floor) and boom…..  They are all over him.     He almost takes it as a challenge to see what the folks will say next but realistically neither of us can speak and love the joy of editing at times.

As we keep moving forward, we are really kicking around the idea of creating a new you-tube channel so you can see not only some of our un-edited podcast but those videos that sometimes never makes the audio.   We got some exciting changes happening in the next couple of months for new ways to enjoy us both during our podcast, during recordings and who knows maybe on the radio.    We got some lofty goals but at the end of the day, we enjoy drinking with our friends.   We hope to raise a glass on our journey and have a lot of fun.

Jack Daniels Rolling With A 5 Vegas

As we moved into a new month, it is another week, another whiskey and also a new cigar theme this month.  As we were gearing up in Indianapolis for Carb Day (which is just before the Indianapolis 500), we broke out a bottle of Jack Daniels for this review.   We paired it up with a 5 Vegas cigar from Cigars International for our review of the First-Third in this episode.     We had been getting fueled up for this podcast with our Hotel Tango whiskey so we have to apologize upfront for the ADD breaks we were having because we were ready to go down to the track and continue our drinking experience.    Stay tuned for this ADD drinking experience..  Train..  Train….

In this blog, we will certainly talk about what we lacked upon in the podcast..  Our Whiskey..   It is sort of tough to talk about a whiskey that is known world-wide as a popular base-line whiskey for any situation..  Neat, Rock or as normally served, Whiskey and coke.     Both of the hosts in this podcast had been drinking our partners whiskey (Hotel Tango) like we usually do to fuel our podcast but we were extremely excited to get down to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a pre-race event.   So while we were enjoying Jack Daniels, we were really focused on our 5 Vegas this week.

We used the phrased repeatedly, it is Jack..  Everybody knows Jack..   Even though we are both Jim guys, we can’t lie with that Jack statement.    So it was sort of hard to stay on track for us for this whiskey review.   For that alone, we do apologize but we don’t apologize for the great combination of cigars and whiskey and general derails during our recording..  If you haven’t checked out a periscope recording (sponsored by Hotel Tango), you can certainly see a lot of items that didn’t make the podcast itself.

Keeping It Classy With Gentleman Jack

Has there been a time when you said you were ready for a challenge but weren’t quite feeling it?   Well welcome to this week’s dilemma for the guys of Whiskey On The Rails..   We brought in a completely new whiskey for our podcast and one from a company that hasn’t been reviewed yet, Jack Daniels.  We tried to classy up our recording area with some awesome Gentleman Jack.   While one host was fueled up with excitement, the other was ready to use the mic has a pillow..   Enough of a teaser, stay tuned for the podcast for more information.

As we said, we haven’t brought in a single bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey into our recording of podcasts and blogs.  Honestly, it isn’t overly surprising since both of the hosts are Jim Beam guys and we have brought in what we have enjoyed.   Not to say there is anything wrong with Jack, not at all, it has just been our preference to drink Jim.   What we both agree on is enjoying great whiskey and this batch of Gentleman Jack is certainly some great whiskey.

When we officially started off our drinking adventure, it was slightly difficult since one of the hosts was slightly under the weather for the recording..  Just to be safe, we recorded in the afternoon (well afternoon if you were in Europe) so the effects from the prior night were still being a great topic of conversation.    However we will let that conversation come out in the podcast vs giving that teaser during the blog.

We tried the whiskey (and when we say we it was mostly me and if you can figure out who is me then you know who is writing this blog) across our traditional three ways..  Neat, Rocks and Whisky Stones.  We poured the whiskey into our beautiful Glencairn Whisky Glass and started our overall drinking process of this whiskey.   It was a beautiful caramel color of whiskey that almost shined in our Glencairn glass.      When you spin the whiskey, you can really catch a good deal of the smell of the whiskey..   From one that gets its flavor from its barrel, you don’t really pick up that oak smell at all in the smell of this whiskey..  It is a vanilla and caramel smell from this whiskey, unless you spent the evening smoking cigars and aren’t feeling it, then it might be one or the other…

The flavor taste proved to be a great taste test because one of the hosts proved that the “hair of the dog” is real and it does work because the other host cheered him on during the recording..  Yes, I do enjoy my host and we both pick on each other quite a bit..   He got his revenge later but hey, that is another story for another time when it comes to drinking between two friends.   Back to the taste, we had it at room temperature and the flavor wasn’t something I was expecting..  It was…  Well I guess I did cover that in the podcast, so check out the recording and see if you agree..

It was time to break out some Whisky Stones and chill down our whiskey to a delightful cold temperature.    We learned that three whisky stones can chill down your glass of whiskey and we also learned that three whisky stones one somebody’s forehead can also help them out when they are under the weather.    What we did find from the stones, it did not break up the taste of this whiskey.   In my opinion, it really showcased the true taste of the whiskey without diluting down and taking away from the overall flavor of the barrel and taste of the whiskey.    So in my mind, whisky stones were awesome and my host appreciated the temperature of the stones but was looking forward to some rocks.

The reason he wanted some rocks was to see if the flavor would be opened up with some water and he wasn’t disappointed in the results.   Well he thought the flavor was not only taken down but the overall effects was taken away.      I don’t want to give away too much information but again, I am proud that he was still drinking with me during this podcast recording, so again check out the recording.

At the end of the day, we got another great whiskey on the shelves and another great recording.    We had to apologize to those who missed out on the periscope line (sponsored by Hotel Tango) but one of the hosts wasn’t feeling it..   If you listen to about 3 minutes of the podcast, you will completely understand..  We do love our sponsors and want you to learn more about them..   If you want to learn more about them, please click on the individual links below or feel free to click on the sponsor’s link at the top right corner of our webpage.  You can find each of their website, facebook and twitter links.
