Elijah Craig With The River On Fire

Well we are back enjoying some aged small batch bourbon on Whiskey On The Rails.   We enjoy suggestions from our followers and this was a suggestion we received more than once, so we had to bring it into the mix.    In our podcast, we were enjoying the 12 year old, small batch bourbon from Elijah Craig.   We certainly found a winner with this bourbon from three different aspects of enjoyment.   What are they?   Find out in our podcast..

Alright, so in this blog we are going to be keeping the fun in the podcast but pulling out a great story that we talked about..  That story was the time people had to call the fire department to put out the river thanks to some barrels of fire.    When you think of barrels of fire, you think of Donkey Kong and jumping over those barrels.   Not a big deal, you jump over them, climb up some ladders and boom..  There is the princess..  Just think if those barrels were flying your way full of whiskey,    What would the prize be now?

Well Eric brought up an outstanding write up on the podcast and we had to talk about it.  In early 1997, there was a great fire that almost took a lot of great distilleries off of the map in Heaven Hill.   It was said that almost 90k barrels, yes you read that correctly, 90,000 barrels of whiskey burned out of control and the weather only helped the situation to cause havoc in the region.     Now we say this fire was a great fire because of the whiskey and bourbon that was on fire but thanks to some brave firemen they quickly got the fire under-control and they were still able to save a few bottles of whiskey.   Now this is really only a brief write up but we certainly talked about it in detail during the podcast.

Now our 12 year will sit proudly on our bar and we will enjoy not only the taste but a great ring of fire story with Elijah Craig..  As always, we gotta thank our sponsors because without them we would be two guys with nothing to drink, nothing to drink out of and more importantly nothing to keep our drinks cold.   If you want to learn more about them, please click on the individual links below or feel free to click on the sponsor’s link at the top right corner of our webpage.  You can find each of their website, facebook and twitter links.
